  Material Handling Applications
Pallet A Strong Natural Character

Southern Pine compares favorably, and in some cases is superior to several species in terms of specific gravity, bending, stiffness and compression - all important factors to consider when selecting lumber for material handling applications.

High density is the source of Southern Pine's strong natural character, providing weight, wear resistance and strength. While relatively easy to work, Southern Pine stands up well under rough treatment. It is comparable to hardwood species such as maple, ash, and elm in its ability to hold fastenings.

The Pallet Design System

The Pallet Design System is a reliability-based design procedure for wood-stringer and block pallets. It is based on engineering fundamentals, matrix structural analysis techniques in a first-order second-moment format, and the results of laboratory and field tests. Estimates of pallet strength, deformation, and durability are generated from user-specified descriptions of the pallet and its handling performance levels. In other words, your pallet manufacturer can design a Southern Pine pallet using scientifically valid methods and a high degree of confidence that your material handling needs will be met for strength, design, and racking. Find Pallet Design System software here.

Southern Pine Pallets are Recyclable, Reusable

Today, more companies are considering reusable pallets to solve both their everyday materials handling needs...and to help the environment. In fact, significant savings can be realized when the life cycle cost is considered, rather than basing pallet purchasing decisions on the unit price alone. Reuse makes plain common sense: if pallets are built with durability in mind, the pallets will last longer, and there will be less waste for disposal. Reusable pallets help achieve "source reduction" which is established by the Environmental Protection Agency as the first and preferred, method of solid waste management.
