Lumber Shipments

SFPA tabulates monthly Southern Pine shipment totals in collaboration with the Southern Pine Inspection Bureau (SPIB) and Timber Products Inspection (TP) and has annual shipment data going back to 1915.

December 2024 Shipments

Southern Pine lumber shipments in December totaled 1.594 billion board feet (Bbf), 15% below November’s revised shipments of 1.876 Bbf.

2024 shipments totaled 21.977 Bbf, nearly equal to 2023.

Southern Pine Exports, Softwood Lumber Imports

SFPA compiles monthly data on Southern Pine lumber exports and softwood lumber imports from the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service’s Global Agricultural Trade System (GATS).

Export totals by all countries focus on dressed and rough Southern Yellow Pine and treated lumber. Import totals, meanwhile, include all softwood lumber imported to the United States by USDA partners. SFPA’s analysis, which includes commentary, trends, and insight from our international consultants, focuses on month-over-month and year-over-year totals and comparisons.

December 2024 Exports

Exports of Southern Pine lumber (treated and untreated) ended 2024 at 565.7 Mbf, which was up 11% over the previous year.

Southern Pine lumber exports were up 21.9% in December 2024 over the same month in 2023 but down 2.2% from November 2024.
