February 2025 Southern Pine lumber exports (treated and untreated) were up 4.7% to 40.8 Mbf over January but were down 15% over February 2024, according to February 2025 data from the USDA’s Foreign Agriculture Services’ Global Agricultural Trade System.

When looking at the report by dollar value, Southern Pine exports are down 4% compared to the first two months of 2024 at $32 million. Mexico led the way at $8.4 million, followed by the Dominican Republic at $6.7 million, and Canada at $3.3 million. The total global value in February, however, hit a five-month high of $16.5 million.

Treated lumber exports, meanwhile, were down 8% to $18.3 million through the first two months of 2025 compared to a year ago led by Jamaica at $3 million, the Leeward-Windward Islands at $2.6 million, and the Netherlands Antilles with $2 million.

  • Mexico remains the largest export market (by volume) of Southern Pine and treated lumber but is down 13% YTD over 2024 with 20.4 Mbf.
  • The Dominican Republic, the No. 2 importer of Southern Pine, continued its slow start to 2025, down 25% with 12.8 Mbf.
  • Canada, which ended 2024 as the No. 5 importer of Southern Pine lumber (treated and untreated), was the No. 4 importer in February, up 40% over 2024 YTD with 6 Mbf.
  • India also continued its sluggish start to 2025, down 36% YTD with 3.6 Mbf.
  • The Philippines posted a 244% year-over-year surge in February with 1.7 Mbf for the first two months of 2025.
  • Pakistan, meanwhile, posted an 11% year-over-year drop with 2.1 Mbf so far in 2025.
  • Exports to China, now the 13th largest importer, are down 60% YTD at 1.2 Mbf.
  • The following countries in the Caribbean and Central American region, outside of Mexico and the Dominican Republic mentioned above, imported more than 1 Mbf in February 2025:
    • Jamaica: the third-largest export market was up 41% through the first two months of 2025 with 7.6 Mbf.
    • The Leeward-Windward Islands: down 3% YTD with 4.2 Mbf.
    • The Bahamas: up 26% with 4 Mbf.
    • Belize: up 48% year-over-year with 2.4 Mbf.
    • Netherland Antilles: up 36% at 2.2 Mbf.
